I just bought a new 02 GLI (400 kms on it) and am noticing that it runs rough only at around 1000 rpm. The engine light has flashed on a couple of cool mornings. Its either missing or out of balance. The dealer has had it for a week now and is still unable to find the cause. They have replaced the coils, plugs and an injector but problem is still there. They are saying that tomorrow they are going to have to go deeper into the motor. THIS IS SUPPOSED TO BE A NEW CAR! I am worried about the condition its going to be in when I get it back. Any suggestions?

Mine runs a bit rough at 1k if I give it gas and hold it there. No biggie. As I understand it, most cams have a spot where they run rougher than in others. I wouldnt worry too much about it.

damn.... it looks like you are in the exact same situation as me.....
got all coils replaced....(twice)... 1 injector.... they even swapped some coils cause i was always having misfire on cyl #6..... if you want to ry something.... floor first gearto the redline.... floor 2nd gear until it reaches 4200rpm and keep it there for 10-15 seconds.... your CEL will probably begin to flash.... this error is due to bad ECU!!!
dont listen to people trying to brainwash you about the fact that ECU has nothing to do with this problem (dealer and people around here)... i was getting flashing CEL each time that i wanted between 4200RPM and 4600rpm in second gear.... code was sporadic misfire cyl#6... even if they swapped cyl 5 and 6 coils... i was getting cyl#6 error so coils are not the problem....
after thet... they finally decided to hear me and change ECU 2 months ago and for now "ZERO" error code!!!!! none! nada!
it took more than a year to find what was happening... now the car is running right!

my car shakes at ~1000 rpm... my friend eric's 24v does it, as does Jose's, Matt's, Andy's, Corey's, and Abe's... and those are just my personal friends with 24v's... im sure if you watch this thread and people feel like responding to yet another thread about the same problem (there have been like 7 of these threads before) you will see that everyones car shakes a bit at ~1000 RPM

GG GLI Thanks for the response. Just currius. Did you have a shake at around 1000 rpm and did it go away after the new ECU?

yes... i remember that the engine was shaking when i got it (old ECU)around 1000rpm...... for now... i must say that i dont know.... i'll look at this for you at when ill go for dinner

i get the shake too, but i dont get a cel when i do the floor 1,2nd then hold.
i have never gotten a cel.
i remember when my exhaust got loose it shaked even more and at higher rpms, i tightend it back down and it just shakes a little at 1k like it always has.

Hmmm...mine doesn't shake at all at 1000rpm...maybe 7200...but not 1000?

he is right.. ANY car giving you that kind of issue u need to tell them forget it... your car is flawed and either give me a new one or cancel my contract...... i had quite a few ecu issue's but after my GIAC chip install in may.. not one issue.... http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

its never really been a problem for me.
and everyone i know with a 24v has the same shake

i looked yesterday night to see if my engine was still shaking.... and yes it is.... but like all the guys here told you... this is a normal VR6 issue...

yeah, between 1G and 1.2G's..... wouldn't stress. I WOULD stress about the flashing / intermittent MIL light; that's not normal at all.

for sure i'ts not normal.... and i'm sure you'll solve it with the new ECU.... it worked for me... it should work for the other..... i got the exact same symptoms as you (injector, flashing CEL, coils replaced) and nothing worked except the ECU replacement.... ask your dealer.... if he dont want to do it... just bother them until they get upset

I talked to the dealer late yesterday and he said they had a specialist in and he replaced the ECU hopefully this fixes the CEL problem and I guess I will learn to live with the shake
