I'm totally jacking this from another thread, but thought it needed to be made to keep everyone in the lounge up to speed. I have no used this, but I do plan to with my 60k service.
The MotorVac system is a closed system that actually has a lot of great features, and utilizes a chemical to run through and clean out your engine.
Maybe water is free, but this seems much more thorough and well thought out.
Here is the link to the Impala boards where those guys really like the product, and they definetly seem like a civil, well educated group http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

Re: MotorVac/CarbonClean (JrodVW)

I just got done reading that thread, and I think I am going to give this a try on my LR Discovery. Car hesitates after 3k and the dealer said it's so much carbon on the valves, they said I need a new valve job. $100-$200 bucks seems better then $2500 for right now. I'll post a write up when it's done

Re: MotorVac/CarbonClean (sirhc)

What seems to be the consensus of a mileage mark to do this at? My dads V8 Explorer just got a tune-up this week with 63k on the clock. Wondering what this could do to it.
Or for the slight stumble in the 911......

I plan on doing it on my LR and GTI to see if there is an improvement.

Re: MotorVac/CarbonClean (JrodVW)

I've used it on a couple high mileage cars.
My Jetta was MotorVac'ed twice on the original 180,000+ mile motor.
In both cases, we tested the static emissions output before and after.
While you may not notice IMMEDIATE changes--it seems that the car needs to be 'run in' a bit after cleaning--there were significant drops in emissions output within 25 miles of driving after the MotorVac procedure was performed.
Also, my mileage went up, performance increased, and the hot start issue I'd been having nearly dissappeared.
If you can find a shop that doesn't mark up the procedure a huge amount, it's worth it.
