I was thinking about doing a custom install; installing the face somewhere else and hiding the unit maybe in the glove box or somewhere else. Where can I get the right kind of wire to attach from the face to the cd unit to extend it?

You can get wire suitable,pretty much anywhere.Probably should use 16 or14ga,stranded.
Which hu do you have?

You will probably need to go to an electronics supply store and buy some kind of 6 or 8 conductor with a very good shield...I did that a few years ago with a Nakamichi and did originally have some issues. I had to go back and buy lesser guage multistranded and had to do a very accurate job of soldering the wire to the head unit and face....Mounted the face behind removable AC ducts in an 85 Jetta...Lived in the city and never had my car touched...

Ok, so Radio Shack should carry the wire I need. You have to solder the wire; damn! I have an Alpine headunit! i dont remember the model number but its about 2 years old and its the 4volt out high model.
