Movie: The Italian Job

Who's seen it? I don't know many people who have, but I think this is one of the coolest car movies ever... I'd say it's up there with Ronin and Gone in 60 Seconds. Granted, it doesn't have all those cool e-brake turns like Ronin or car porn like Gone... it does have a bunch of minis full of gold driving through italy and eventually loading into a gutted bus... bad ass...

Great movie. It's on Speedvision every once in a while. In addition to the Mini's, it has the Lambo surprise in the first scene, tons of Alfa Guilietta's and Jag E-types, and an old Series Land Rover. Plus some really mod British period music. Personally, I like Dirty Mary and Crazy Larry better.
Re: Movie: The Italian Job (Zinhead)

the only song i really remember is "get a blooming move on" (self preservation society) but i can't find it anywhere...
Re: Movie: The Italian Job (nsadhal)

GREAT FLICK!
Re: Movie: The Italian Job (nsadhal)

Definitely well worth the 10 bucks to buy the video. If for nothing else than the Lamborghini soundtrack in the opening scene. Oh, and Benny Hill too. "I like 'em biiig!"
Great flick, too bad they didn't film the mini that actually did a loop in the pipe scene.

This is one of my longtime favourite car films. I love the way it starts with the Miura carving up european roads. I'm waiting for some sort of special edition DVD to come out.

Re: Movie: The Italian Job (nsadhal)

is it on dvd?
Re: Movie: The Italian Job (Vw_herbie)

I heard it'll be released on dvd around the summer of this year, but I don't know. It'll probably be UK too... I dunno if we'll get it in the US. Stupid region codes...
Re: Movie: The Italian Job (nsadhal)

Is that the one where the Mini's drive up the roof of some stadium? Crikey.
Re: Movie: The Italian Job (garbage)

Wasn't Michael Caine driving an Aston Martin? It's been a long time since I saw that movie. There was a scene where the Mafia intercepted them on the way to the job. There was a bulldozer crushing E-types. It was about to crush Caine's Aston when he threatened that his boss would drive all the Italians in Britain in to the sea... every barber, every ice cream stand owner, every other stereotypical Italian occupation.
Re: Movie: The Italian Job (Cooper)

Re: Movie: The Italian Job (Ronbo)

I hear they are considering a remake, starring the new MINIs. Loved the original, a GREAT car flick.

Re: Movie: The Italian Job (WolfsburgTekniques)

Thanks! It's a 1275 bored .20 over with dual carbs, headers, and straight thru exhaust and wild cam. The thing with 62s (or any car 25+ older) is no smog issues to worry about. Now if I can only drop the 2 liter ABA that I had in my MK1 GTI in there--that would be FUN!!! Both are transverse, exh and intake pretty much in same location..hmmm..

Well, there was stuff on the FIAT factory in Turin:

, and the cut scenes from the ice rink, doing a nice bit of ballet - it's great to watch
and the stadium (don't know which one), and the chase through the Birmingham-Coventry Main sewer!

Re: Movie: The Italian Job (Rallybug)

Here's some info. I found on the remake. This would explain why I can't seem to find a copy of the old version on DVD yet! They will time the release with the remake more than likely.
