my 455 into a regal project

so I have been working on this on and off since september, and tomorrow I am taking the heads to get remanufactured/get four broken exhaust studs taken out at the machine shop. the car is an 83 regal I picked up for 125 dollars. the motor is a 72 455 buick, I picked it up for 350 dollars, and after looking at the cylinders after removing the heads today, it looks brand new. I spent 350 on headers, and had to have one custom cut/bent fabricated thru a friend of a friend for 40 dollars, which would have cost me atleast 100 otherwise. Ive also got 90 dollars into the custom motor mounts. all expenses aside, as soon as those heads come back Im going to drop the motor into the car, and pray that everything lines up like it should. I told my mom today that it should be faster than my z-28 was, and she said whats the point?? I had to think about that for a minute, but basically for 1000 dollars, I am going to have a car that should run 14s, so that equals out to a custom built car that should be faster than about 75 percent of the cars out there on the road. I know its time to get the project done, cuz I had a dream last night I was driving the car.

14s with a 455? Is there another car in the trunk??
Re: my 455 into a regal project (busted-ass-jetta)

A guy I used to work with did an engine swap in a Regal. The thing was, the donor car was a diesel, so it was exempt from emissions testing

talked to the machine shop today, they want 400 to redo the heads, thats damn expensive, too expensive for me now, so ill just have to pick up the heads, and all my hopes of the car being ready in a week or two will have to be put on hold. but for 838 dollars I can get stage 1 heads, good for 25hp over stock 455 heads, 3 angle valve job, higher compression, Im starting to wish I hadnt ripped up my credit cards.

I like the concept... 250hp? is that all? You must be able to easily extract a hundered plus hp from that thing... shouldn't you?
Re: my 455 into a regal project (gtivr4)

Only 250hp from a 455?? Yeesh
Re: my 455 into a regal project (gtivr4)

I'm not sure about the hp. But anyway, I meant as it came out of the factory. maybe closer to 270-280hp. I dunno, really.
For all you torque lovers: My friends Olds 88 with a 455 rocket had only 290 hp but round about 500 ftlb at peak. Guessing the Buick would be similar.

Actually, a 71-72 Stage I GS 455 was like 360hp w/ 520 fp torque. And that was with the 'funny' numbers of the day that were always a bit low.
I'd think with minor mods (good carb, intake, headers,etc..) you could easily push 400+hp.
Re: my 455 into a regal project (busted-ass-jetta)

A guy I work with has a mildly built 455 in his mid-eighties Monte Carlo. No chance to hit a chassis dyno yet, but his math tells us he's running about 400 or so HP at the crank. I believe he did a low 14 second 1/4 mile, and had traction problems. His car is not show-car pretty, but scary fast. The 3" Flowmasters look & sound cool too.

I have a small affliction for early 80s black Buicks with "T-Type" on it.

yea, it was white, GN wheels, 3.8L turbo and it put me back in my seat more times than i will ever be able to count. I think that the GN is one of the most respected cars on the road. I always got the waves and http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif from other drivers, no matter what they were in.. Its got to be one of my all time favorite cars and i cant wait for the day i see another one for sale that i can afford!

I was riding somewhere with my 50 year old father last week and spun around completely in the seat to watch a steel blue T Type go by. I rarely see GNs, but I never see T Types. He thought I was having a seizure untill I pointed it out to him, he thought it was just a really clean Regal

I've seen one that looked just like that at the strip, probably the same one since they're kinda rare.

Nah, don't regret cutting up credit cards, but look for another machine shop. I don't know what you're asking for, but if its just decking and a valve job, you should be able to get that done for under two hundred (unless the heads are really trashed, of course).
