Well, I haven't been here in a while but I came back to tell the story of a GLi that once was...
blah, anyway...
Last Thursday I got rear-ended by a drunk driver while completely stopped at a stop sign. It was 3 o'clock in the afternoon and the woman was totally blitzed. She didn't even ask if I was ok, she just kept offering me money not to call the cops. Anywho, the cops came and towed my car away. And yesterday it was totalled. I am very sad, I will miss the GLi. I wish they would have atleast let me take the seats out. The interior was in mint condition. I'll miss the black/grey vinyl/cloth seats. I am going to go cry now.

Re: My '85 Jetta GLi... RIP (DagoGLI)

Unfortunately there is no chance of me taking those seats out... They gave me $1600 for the car. Which isn't bad for an '85 with 150,000+ on it
I wasn't expecting to get that much out of it but hey, i'm not complaining.

Re: My '85 Jetta GLi... RIP (clickhappy)

well, with my current financial situation it is just best for me to take the cash and sever my emotional ties to the car. There are plenty of other dubs out there for me

$1600 does'nt really sound that good, i guess if you don't have that much $ into it. i am prepared to present a ton of reciepts in the event of some sort of vehicular mishap in which the finger points away from me. are you sure you can't barter with them? i played hardass whan i got hit, and came out smelling like roses. burned all the money, tho'. glad you did'nt get hurt, sounds like a bad situation.

Wait! Don't give up hope yet. I just had my Jetta Totaled (the only damage was a cracked dash keyed paint and stolen stereo, that's what I get for owning an older car). I was offered $1600 for my car minus deductable plus taxes (which worked out to be around $1500). I asked about the option of keeping my car and they said that they would have to minus the salvage fee which was only $100, which meant that I could keep my car and get $1400 for damages. Only $100 difference!
I'm planning on getting a nicer Golf or GTI (since it's still probably cheaper than fixing the car) and switching over all of the nicer parts on my Jetta to whatever car I end up getting.
I still have to check with my insurance agent about being able sell the Jetta (what's involved with selling a preiously damaged car). But all in all if your car isn't too damaged it might be worth trying to get the car back and parting out some of the nicer parts.

Yo I crashed my car and it was declared totaled as well but I bought back from the Insurance company. I'm sure if you call the rep who declared your car totalled and ask him he will sell it back for like 200 bucks, you can make that money by selling the interior.....

When i totalled my 89 GTI, i got it back, about 100 bucks or so, and i sold my engine, wheels, interior, misc parts, and alot of other stuff i had in it and i got about 1G back from it...and their going to tow it to get recycled....so im glad i got mine back...remember you can always part it out...your engine is still good right...
