The Clear Coat on my 98 Honda accord is REALLY bad. It is has the white foggy appearance and there are areas where it has completely worn away and the dull paint underneath is exposed. On the roof, it has "retreated" about 6 inches all along the top of the back window, and has done the same thing on the roof between the windshield and the sunroof, except it's a circle about the size of a softball. I can also see it starting to happen on the hood. I'm sure it's about to do it in other places too, but I just can't see them yet.
The body is otherwise straight as an arrow, and is in perfect mechanical condition. We would like to keep it for at least another couple of years, but it just looks junky and I'm sure our neighbors and co-workers wonder what's wrong with us. I am not working right now so having it repainted is not an option, but I do have time to work on it and treat it with some guidance if possible. It's also starting to do this in a couple of places on my Jetta.
Here are my questions:
A. Can I stop it?
B. Can I fix it without sanding and painting?
C. Can I at least "mask" it? (You can't tell it's a problem when the car is wet.)
D. How do I stop it/fix it/mask it?
Thanks, Jay
