my destruction will be caused by my inability to be happy with what I already own.

fortunately I'm seeing less of this with my Jetta... but not completely gone. Now it's more limited to cars I USED to own and sold/traded off.
I made the mistake of perusing the waterfest pics, seeing all the Mk2 GTi's... made me really miss mine a lot. :sniff:
How many of you are this fickle about your cars? I see that for the most part, it seems that you all drive one thing and are fans of others... i suppose I've always had trouble with the part of just admiring a car... can't ever think of it in those terms without thinking of what I'd do if I owned it. :/

There are shortcomings with every car. The only way to eliminate that is to buy one of my cars (read http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=174147). But it's looking like that's going to cost a big chuck of dough.
I love my car, but i wish I had just a bit more money to make it Uber-quattro. I find myself looking at picts of RS2s and other Audis I wish I had. Damn expensive obsessions.

You said it, there's nothing worse with having such an expensive hobby which you can't afford to feed.

Why can't I just like something cheap ?!!!

I think you've met the criteria set forth by ClownCar regarding topic titles. I understood exactly what you were talking about before even opening your thread.
As for your situation. Damn, you nailed it. I have two cars that are almost absolutely perfect for me, but I want more! Something different and exciting! I constantly think about what to change on my car (I want new wheels for no good reason) and am always shopping for a new car for me or my wife. I have sufficiently distracted myself by burying myself in work for the past week just to take my mind off of my obsession with cars.

I'm always checking out cars that I want, no matter what I currently own. I have always wanted an Audi, i don't know why but it started when I was young and saw the Ur-quattro. Seems like I wanted anything Audi pre 95'
I'm trying to sell my Golf TDI which I have only owned a year, to get a "family car". In otherwords, something with 4 doors. to pay off my car loan, line of credit, I will have about 8K CDN to play with. I'm looking for a 4kcsq, or a 5kcstq for our "family" car
Plus about 3K for parts and repairs

The obsession rolls along.......

Damn, you've summed up my utter hell. My Passat is functionally the perfect car for me. It's a pretty reliable sample too.
But does that stop me from compiling lists of cars I want to own and collect? Does it stop me from frequenting the "Build Your Own" sections of Audi's and BMW's websites? Does it keep me from shopping for a 95 Merlot Mica M-edition Miata, although I don't have the money for one for at least a year? No.
I don't know if its sad, or hopeful, this car addiction of mine.
Tom
Yep, I know exactly what you mean. I am darn fickle as well. I had a 98 GTI and kept for a little over a year. Then I bought a 2000 Jetta and sold it after 8 months cause I really missed the GTI. So now I have a MKIV GTI (all of these cars were/are silver).
Sometimes I miss my old MkIII; the red stitching on the steering wheel, the golf ball shifter, the silver gauge faces. It just felt more "special" than my MKIV. Sometimes I miss having 4 doors like I had on the Jetta.
And sometimes when I go to shows, I see a MKI or II that is sooo nicely done that I think about how much I could get for mods and sell my car for so that I could buy one of these and start from scratch (yes, I actually find myself standing there doing the math in my head!).
But I love my '01 GTI VR6 too. But a 1.8T would be fun.
Ahhh, never happy.

In the past few months, I have wanted to own the following cars:
1. Crown Victoria/Interceptor/Panther
2. E46 M3
3. MK2 GTi/Golf
4. 2001 Mustang Cobra
5. MB C280
6. S14 240SX with SR20DET
7. Acura Legend
8. B5 Audi A4
9. Supra Turbo
10. RSX Type S
11. 1st generation Q45
12. Camaro SS
13. 944 Turbo
14. 2nd/3rd generation Civic hatch
There's probably more, I just can't remember. I wish I could stop receiving those "YOU'VE BEEN APPROVED FOR A 25K CAR LOAN!" flyers, they're just too tempting.

Take out the American cars, and I would buy any of them in a heartbeat if I only had the money. At least most of you here have good cars already, so BE HAPPY WITH WHAT YOU HAVE!!!

Re: my destruction will be caus...

I totally agree with you. I have two great cars. The Jetta is slowly showing some wear and tear, but drives so great. Id love to get my wife a new Altima, or Acura TL, Volvo, or Passat. I also love my truck. I got it fixed up good with some big BfGs, Grill guard, Stereo, etc. It even has leather seats and stuff, but I really want a 95 or so 4 Runner for some reason. Im constantly looking at what I dont "really" need.

Re: my destruction will be caus... (forewheel)

I'm in the same boat. My car purchases far outpace the number years I've been married. From the time I could drive (legally) I've changed cars pretty frequently. If we get our 4-Mo Passat variant like we've been promised (this Saturday) that'll be 3 car purchases this year.

As far as what I'd LIKE to own currently...
A4 (sedan AND avant)
A6 2.7T
S6 Avant (while I'm dreaming)
WRX wagon
Allroad
W8 Passat variant
D1
A3 to come here in 2004(based on Steppenwolf, which I also want, if they build it)
Envoy (yeah, I like it, what of it?
)
TT 225 Coupe
too many others to remember now
I'm so thankful my husband indulges me in this interest, since it's rather income intensive.

Re: my destruction will be caus... (LelloBeetle)

You think YOU'RE fickle?
My car owning history:
1. Jan 2000 - New Mitsubishi Eclipse
2. April 2000 - Traded in for New Ford Mustang (with only 2883 miles on the Mitsu)
3. March 2001 - Traded in for Used Audi A4 (14000 miles on the Mustang)
4. May 2001 - Traded in for New Jetta GLX
I know, financially it couldn't be more dumb. But when you're fickle that's what happens. I love my Vdub now, and honestly that "I still haven't found what I'm looking for" feeling isn't there (ok, I'm lying, I want that BMW). But what I'm trying to say is I don't feel that itch to trade in for something else within my price range. It's almost as if I've settled down now... i'm getting old

Curiously same thing happens with me when it comes to girls. In high school I had 5 different girlfriends... just seemed to get tired of them after a while. But now.. I'm very committed to a girl I've been going out with for a year and a half. That's a real record for me.. maybe as a person age.. that urge to "keep looking" slowly diminishes?
But I'm only 23

LOL! My friends say this about me. You're like a man who has a commitment phobia. It's true. As SOON as I get a car, I'm thinking about the other great cars out there that I'm missing out on. Thank goodness I don't feel like this about relationships!

True. I think if you really want something different, you'll come up with something wrong with what you have now, in order to make it happen. Fortunately, I can't find anything wrong with what I have now.

Whenever I want something new, I always think back to first getting my license, and how happy I was to have an old Camry rather than nothing.
