I can't believe I just fell into the 'duh' catagory. my ebrake has been partially engaged (frozen in place) for like 6 months. i was always wondering why my car wouldn't roll on slight inclines... I pryed them open and all is good now!
Re: My E brake's been engaged for like 6 months!!!!!!! (MyBlackGti)
New pads?? you idiot, why don't you research before you start givin crappy advice. Maybe pick up your bentley and learn a little somethin before you shoot your mouth off.
Try new E-brake cables as your old ones are probably seized up somewhat, that would be your problem. Any other concerns, ask someone who knows somethin, and aint just a big mouth

guys guys guys, please let's have some respect here.
Re: My E brake's been engaged for like 6 months!!!!!!! (redgolf28V)
If you popped the cable end off, and the lever on the caliper didn't snap back to fully open, then the caliper is junk.
Even if you get the lever to move freely on the outside, the piston has to move in and out when you do that....if it doesn't, the mechanism inside is frozen.
Besides, once they sieze up like that one time, they end up doing it over and over again.
No need to call anyone an idiot
You could have possibly needed pads, rotors, cables, and calipers.
Broke
Re: My E brake's been engaged for like 6 months!!!!!!! (redgolf28V)
the cables are good (seemingly) a bit rusty when you move the seal to look, but seem ok. and i got one calpier to move freely, but the other (left) one won't release on it's own. they work for braking, which is the most important part... i still can't believe i've been driving around like that
Re: My E brake's been engaged for like 6 months!!!!!!! (allan r)
My JIII has recently (VERY cold weather) had the rear discs (E-brake) getting frozen and I was wondering if they had "backing plates" of some kind. I'm thinking that's just a drum brake item, but towing my dad's boat out of the water years back we ALWAYS had to pop the tow vehicle in reverse and BARELY roll back before the rears would release due to the backing plate. Does this make any sense to any of you? I did it in the Jetta, but I think it was probably just coincidence that they released.

OK there redgolf28v, post some pics of your ride so i can tell you how much of a POS it is. It seems that you're hard headed...his calipers froze, meaning his pads prolly were touching the rotor the whole time, HMMMMMMMM wouldnt that make sense to check the pads first? OO wait..sounds like an idea to me....and i dont need a bently really cause ive worked on dubs enough times to at least know what im talking about somewhat.

makes sense to me. I think a guy that has done a 2.0l crossflow swap knows what he's talking about.
