Here's the whole story. a buddy bought this 76 bus in 07, it came without engine or trans for 1k. He than bought a type 4 stroker 94x78mm with dual 44 webbers, 3-rib freeway flyer and some other stuff for like 4k. I installed the engine and trans but since the bus came in fuel injection for some reason I couldn't figure out the alt wiring. So he ended up bringing it to someone who does the aircooled thing and 1200 bucks later it was completely rewired with a webber electric fuel pump etc. The guy mentioned it needed rear brakes, my buddy refused to spend more money. 6 months down the road the brakes go! It sat for the next year!

I bought this 2 weeks ago for 1k!!

So far I have adjusted valves, messed with timing and gave her a good wash!

It needs:

valve readjust
tune up
Lucas or seafoam?
carb adjust
rear brakes
some rust repair

Today I got it running better. I ran some new gas with lucas mixed in and messed with the timing. It had a backfire as revs were coming down. My friend told me to turn each mixture screw 1/4 inch and run hard. It made a major difference. Now its waiting till I have some extra cash for a complete tune up.

I have some questions

Can I run a SVDA distributor off the 44mm dual webbers? ( now have a 009 electric dizzy)

How much of a difference would a pertronix flamethrower coil make?

What wires?

what oil filter and weight oil? (I live a Georgia never really gets that cold)

Not recommended;) .

Not much, the blue coil you already have should be plenty adequate;) .
What wires?
The stock ones you already have should be fine as long as you keep them reasonably separated from each other in an orderly fashion http://chircoestore.com/catalog/smf/index.php?topic=8553.msg55413#msg55413 ;) .

An 021-115-561-B http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&...0...1ac.1.24.heirloom-hp..7.6.646.SsG2w5ABL8I is stock or you could probably fit in the larger 068-115-561-B http://www.google.com/search?q=068-.....1ac.1.24.heirloom-serp..4.2.206.XEmMzvH-awo , that's the one;) I used when I was running a filter

They're both the same larger diameter but the 068 has ~twice the filtering capacity compared to the 021 & I'm pretty sure that there's enough room down below in order to accommodate it

I always used Castrol 20/50W non synthetic oil;) .

Oh and how do I attach the ac compressor to the engine?
Air conditioning was always an aftermarket afterthought BITD Shaggy :) .
There were both DPD http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&...0...1ac.1.24.heirloom-hp..1.5.545.F7BOUwhzpQc & VPC http://www.google.com/search?q=vw+v....1ac.1.24.heirloom-serp..16.1.124.TuTkYyrDbE8 units used, each had their own bracket & pulley & belt systems;) .
See what ID info you can pull off of that compressor & dash vent assembly then best match it to the system in the searches I just did;) , from there it's pretty much fabricating new brackets if they can't be sourced from a wrecking yard & keep your eye open on other VW Type IV & Porsche 914 sources as well;) .
Have it upgraded from an R12 to R134(all new O-rings & expansion valve;) ) & make sure;) that your engine & trans mounts are up to date so that it doesn't shake itself apart;) (the brackets break quick:eek: when there's too much vibration;) ).
