i just bought a 01 gti 1.8t a few weeks ago and i like it. i have owned many hondas over the years an still own a 91 civic si and a 96 accord. the thing is reading all the problems you people are having with your cars (falling windows etc. ) is making me wonder if i made a mistake buying this car. i have had no major problems with any of my hondas. i also wonder how this crap is being accepted by owners of vw cars. the sort of things that are happening with these cars should be corrected by vw so it doesn't happen again.

You've got it in a nutshell. But you have to remember, that for every bad thing that happens to someone's VW, there are probably hundreds of good things that we take for granted. Due to the nature of this forum, you mostly hear from people with problems looking for some help. Most dealers will help you out with the squeaks you may or may not get in your car, and VW has upped the window regulator warranty to take care of the problems that they know exist.
We all love our dubs, and I love mine. Best of luck to you and your new GTI

Re: my first vw and i am getting nervous (ntrldub)
The people on this forum tend to report NEGATIVE things pretty quickly (either that, or they post lots of neat pictures
)
You don't often getting people posting about how much of a pleasure it is to drive, the amazingly smooth powerband, the sweet gobs of low-end torque, the ultra nice-looking-non-plasticy interior, beautiful styling...
I love my VW!

Re: my first vw and i am getting nervous (flanders)
I think many will agree with me when I say that the quality of the VW's hasn't approached that of the Japanese cars. Honda cars are MUCH more reliable. Not as much fun to drive, but reliable nonetheless.
Re: my first vw and i am getting nervous (rtonna8)
Before buying my Golf I've had 4 Honda's:
- 1984 CRX
- 1988 CRX Si
- 1992 Civic Ex
- 1992 Civic Si
The manual shifter in my Golf feels as good as the Honda's. With the Supercharger & Coilovers the Golf is also much more fun to drive. Also, I haven't experienced any problems in 2 years. I love my VW!
All the Honda's had problems. I just didn't have internet access to check out the technical bullitins.
Re: my first vw and i am getting nervous (rtonna8)
I LOVE my GTI!!! Never had a problem with it. I drive the heck out of it. If a problem occurs...oh-well. I'll just have to get it fixed.
Maybe something is wrong with me...I drive 75-100 mph to work to teach kids math and physics...with Artic Alpine SNOW tires on my car
.
Maybe that justifies a post of its own so I can get feedback (or help
Re: my first vw and i am getting nervous (rtonna8)
think about it. Are people more likely to compain that there car is a POS or the broke something. Or are they going to say how wonderful their car is?
Mine has been GREAT so far with nothing wrong.
The window regulator is a known issue and VW has extended the warranty for them and is supposdly looking for better replacement parts.
Re: my first vw and i am getting nervous (landrumdh)
