my fuse box is different from the bently???

strange things are going on with my car.. i turn on the headlights and my feul pump goes on, i press the horn i hear another noise... nothing electrical is working...
my fuse box is not the one that it says it should be in the bently..
i have a 1989 GTI 16v and my fuse box is on the drivers side hidden under a panel, the relays are on top with a row of fuses on the bottom.. according to my bently my fuse box should be different and it has a diagram of a jetta fusebox that looks curiously alot like mine... what is going on?

I'll try to get some pictures so you can see what i mean.

but on the top of the page describes the location of the fuse box on a jetta.. this is where i found my fuse box.. on my GTI ???
the next picture down is where my fuse box should be according to the bentley..
im trying to restore this car, its been sitting in my garage for 5 years, and i seriously need it on the road. can somebody help me please?

I think the pic you looking at in the book is for a rabbit. And looking at it again, it looks like an old Cabrio fuse panel. Most A2's have the same basic fuse panel

but my bentley is for GTI, Golf, and Jetta for 1985-1989

looks identical to the one in every A2 I have seen, mine included.
Is 89 not the switchover year to CE2? Perhaps it's some assembaly line anomaly. Anyway, maybe we can answer your question about said fuse box. My dash is off, so I can get a really good look at mine.

that looks like a CE2 fuse panel, I thought the 1.8L 16v were CE1? Or maybe there were multiple combos of panel and wiring. In any event, I think even the Bentley mentions there being different panels for each car, and to match by the type of fusebox. That is, isn't the part where it tells you that's from a jetta just the info about where the pic was taken? The fuses/relays should be the same based on the type of box.

Has the car ever worked properly for you. If it did...what was the last thing you did to it before the problem started? If it didn't...then you need to get in behind the fuse box and get a really good continuity/voltage tester and trace power to the different things in your car from the source to the switch and then reorganize it accordingly on the fuse panel. It sounds like you do have the wrong fuse panel. I'm in the opinion that you should have the seperate fuse panel and relay panel like most other GTIs. Does the wiring behind the fuse panel look hacked together or do you have a neat array of OEM plugs?

negativl: well ive been doing some research and i guess VW wasnt very consistent in the year 88-91, some 16v have ce2 some dont.. i obviously do, and i guess the bentley describes just the jetta as ce2 but its really confusing to understand, if anyone has ce2 wiring diagrams for their GTI im willing to bet i could understand it.
switch_900: the car has been sitting for 5 years, but it did work before it was crashed, and the car did under go some major changes back in 1996 (with the previous owner) when a 2.0 block from a passat was swapped in, so.. maybe the previous owner swapped out ce1? i dont know.. but that doesnt seem as likely as VW just being sketchy and slapping ce2 into my car.

anyways, i dont understand all this wiring stuff
, luckily i know alot of people who do, ill let them figure it out. heheh
