This is from the mk3 GTG this weekend. This car had a nice front clip (i think it was rieger, i dont remember exactly) and sideskirts, and a euro smooth-top rear bumper. As you can see, the lines with the euro bumper dont line up. Also, the lines of the rear bumper look like crap to me. The notch that goes all the around is much deeper and uglier than its N/A counterpart. The shortness of the bumper throws off the looks of the car. It just doesnt flow well
If i ever decide to go with a full kit, a euro rear bumper wont be on my list.

Re: My humble opinion on the rear euro bumper (Slapshotnerd)

Here's mine..

I hate the NA rear bumpers on mk3s. I mean like I really, really have something against them. Like they cheated on me and kicked my dog kind of hate.
The thickass line of the euro bumper, as well as the fact that it's lower on the bumper, better match the side moldings IMO.
So basically a euro rear bumper would be one of my first mods if I was starting over.
Different ends of the spectrum, eh?

LOL I would only fight the bumper, not Slapshot!!

I think if you're smoothing the line, the euro bumper is much better, cuz the NA one looks like it belongs on a tugboat or bumper car when smoothed to me
I like it nice and tight against the car! errr.. yes.

serious damn na bumpers dont even fit the bottom lines of the vento...... the rear piece if soo much better than the stock na one...all the european pieces are lower and come out more .. to give the lines a better look.... thats my opinion
...if i had the money i would go with all eurobumpers... they look much better..and weigh less

True. The North American Jetta3 (Vento) especially has a thick rear. And I thought girls teased my Cabrio about having a big butt when it had NA bumpers.

To each their own...but I was more than happy to shed the extra tonnage. I've never been a fan of any car with US-spec bumpers. They always seem to be put on as an afterthought...granted they are better integrated on some cars recently, but the mk3's got the shaft on the big-bumpers.

I agree fully! The US spec parts that differ from the European counterparts I've always felt were afterthoughts that were just compromised to meet our safety standards etc. Which is at least partially fact!

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. The NA rear bumper is a mistake. That thing is huge, ugly and completely wrong for the rest of the car. Honestly, I have no idea what they were thinking when they slapped it on there. Most likely something along the lines of "Baby got back".
The Mk3 is not a rounded car. So why is the rear bumper? It doesn't make any sense.
I could never go back to that obese rear end. But then, that's just me.

I think you should satisfy your jetta's screams of being afraid of heights first. It likes to be low to the ground, so satisfy it!!
oh wait, pete has problems with satisfying others. at least, thats what she said

Re: My humble opinion on the rear euro bumper (4NRYDE)

The rear euro bumper looks best on Ventos in my opinion since they have a flatter rear, which is set off by the euro bumper...plus, it is what the car was designed for, so the NA spec wil always look like an after thought to me...
