3.5 was 2000, no? Isn't there some modification required with the N/A Raiator support? I had the Euro so I don't know, but I thought there was something about the upper brackets?

The two rubber posts on the bottom can be removed, that could be part of your problem, then it sounds like you just need to drill 2 hole in the support for the upper tabs.
