I pulled them and they have a .050 inch 1.27mm gap. Manual says they should be .024 inches. What should i gap the new plugs to?

ps the engine ran fine, just time for new plugs. Its a 97 2.0

because you gapped them wrong or the person before you gapped them wrong, if at all
how about you gap them to .024 and call it a day

true, but I'm continually amazed at how many people don't realize you need to gap your plugs.

I thought I had read somewhere that if you get the NGK plugs, they are already gapped correctly for a VW. Then again, I could be going completely insane.

i believe if it is the factory NGK dual prong then they are pregapped, i have heard that.
