I picked this 2001 GTI VR6 up at auction for $10,000 out the door last night. Only 27,000 Miles... So, the question is... What should I do to it first? It's pretty much all stock as it sits... Any suggestions...

everyone is going to tell you to slam it. my suggestion is to look around the site for a while, and see what you want to do.

Sweet Mother of God that is an incredible price. Congratulations! Go with some suspension modifications (springs, shocks, sway bars, bushings, etc). Don't necessarily slam it. Also be sure to use the FAQ/DIY feature at the top of this forum, its very helpful.

Re: My Second GTI... First Mod Suggestions??? (xanctus)

Good friend of mine has a dealor license because He's an autobroker. He invited me to a Seattle auction and I walked out with a 10K GTI. It's good to have friends in low places...

Your first mod. It really depends on what you want to do. If you want a stiffer ride do suspension. If you want a faster ride, chip and just run from there.

great deal

A good deal is all relative. I purchased my last truck at auction for a great price. Then I ended up putting more than the price of it back into in repairs. The thing was still so F'ed up that I had to sell it just as the market for used cars went down the sh*tter. So basically, I paid about twice what I should have for a working vehicle (this one was in the shop every week), then got about 1/4 of it back when I sold it. Auctions work out for some...others not so much. My question to you is: where do you think all those lemons of the world go?

Well it worked out for me because I had the thing fully inspected bumper to bumper today by a foreign car specialist in my area. This thing is tip top. Nothing wrong what-so-ever. I do my own body-work also, so I can tell if it's ever been wrecked. I think I'm covered on this one...

Leave it alone.
Drive it until something needs to be replaced or until you find the need to replace it.
It is a totally capable car from the factory. Save your $$$.
Drive it and enjoy it. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

Nice car! http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif
As far as modifying goes, I tend to agree with the "do what suits you best" folks. I've done little things to my car that suit me well, and I enjoy the car more. A lot of people would say slam it, but where I have to drive this car every day, it's just not realistic.

get better tires, most gti's come with crappy tires, or just wait untill ur torque eats them, get new exhaust, those vr6 sound so nice, than intake, then suspension, or you can start with suspension first, because gti's especially with vr6 are heavy hatchbacks.
