[ALPHA_NUMERIC]

I'm wondering if my clutch is toast. I have 12k miles on my first manual. I can let the clutch out really slow and get into second OK, but if it's anything other than really slow or completely dropping it when I am flooring it, the car jerks really hard. I feel like I shouldn't have to be THAT careful shifting into second. I test drove a new 02 and it was much smoother. I doesn't feel like slipage which is typical of a worn clutch. It just jerks and is not smooth particularly in 2nd. Is this my clutch?

I can tell you this. WHen I had my cat installed the o2 sensor needed some room to fit, and we banged the heat shield up some, and that ended up jamming by shift linkage and I couldnt go into any gear.
Well that got fixed and now 2nd is still tought to get into. It feels like there is a little ball that I have to shift around. I dont know if that helps but thats my problem.

ive been getting a really bad grind in second gear at high RPMs on a regular basis...i know this isnt normal....is there a fix?......ive only got 4.5k miles.

I've been getting gear gind in 2nd occasionally and in 3rd a LOT as of late...and YES I know how to drive stick, been driving 5 spds for 10 years...Ive read TONS of posts about gear grinding problems, so it's clearly a tranny issue...has anyone had any luck having this fixed through the dealer?...

I have the same problem that you have. I get a grind in 2nd when i sift fafst and i get a grind in 3rd when i shift normal and some times 5th.

For the infamous 2nd gear grind issue: mr4te actually got his dealer to replace his synchros. Here is a copy of his invoice...

A few other folks have gotten full replacement trannies ... sometimes this was a permanent solution, other times the grind came back. Lots of other folks have been told it's perfectly normal, it's driver error, or not to shift with the 1st RPMs so high ... bs.

See, this is not grinding at all with my car. It just sometimes throws me forward when I shift into second if I don't let the clutch out really slowly. It's like I have to be way too careful about how I let the clutch out. It wasn't at all like this on the 02 that I drove and it doesn't feel like slipage. It is just like a jerkiness as if it violently catches the gear even after I've let the clutch out at a normal speed. I have to almost let it out halfway, hold it for a second and then let it out the rest of the way. Otherwise it jerks into gear really hard. It's not like that with any other gear though. Maybe second is messed up?

in my car 1st is hard going in then it grinds badly in 2nd. I was thinking it is the clutch but now who knows. my car has 28,000 miles and it is a 2001 I dont think that my synchros would be covered under warranty. Anyone knows how much this might cost?
