NA 1.9L Diesel question

I just completed a diesel engine swap using a natually aspirated 1.9L diesel that I'm told is a Canadian model engine. (I've never seen one like it in a U.S. spec. car before). If any of you Canadian techs or diesel enthusiests can help me out it would be great.

I've done these new motor swaps before but I've always used the old diesel fuel pump and just adjusted it to compensate for the newer/larger engine. This engine came with a new pump, lines, and injectors. unlike the old pumps this one does not have a cable for cold-start advance, nor is it a fully electronic TDI unit. It does have an electronic solonoid on the front of the pump which I assume is some kind of fuel enrichment or advance unit. Just wondering what it is and how I should hook it up. (Please no wild speculations though, this is a customer's car, not my own so I'm not willing to "try" anything unsure on it, if you do know what this thing is though I'd really appreciate the help). Thanks in advance http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

I don't think that engine came factory on anything?

Us canucks got the 1.9 turbo "ecodiesel" but I've never heard of a factory 1.9 normally aspirated. The 1.9 NA is available aftermarket from places like GEX.com.

Re: NA 1.9L Diesel question (Old school)

The shop I got the engine at said it was a Canadian model... perhaps they were blowing smoke.
Re: NA 1.9L Diesel question (BreenMachine)

This at least I know.
The canadian diesels from around 93 or so till TDI were 1.9 NA diesels. Just a bigger diesel than the 1.6. It put out 73hp, as much as a 1.6TD.
And that is all I know.....

Re: NA 1.9L Diesel question (BreenMachine)

The device in question pointed to by the arrow is where the timing-advance solenoid is on a TDI (which has a very similar injector pump), but as for what it's supposed to connect to ...
Contrary to what you were told, that's not a Canadian-spec engine. All 1.9's sold here were turbocharged. The naturally aspirated 1.9 diesel was (is?) available in Europe for some of the smaller cars (Polo, cheaper versions of Golf, etc.).

This is not correct; the 1.9 diesel was only ever sold here in turbocharged form. '93 until '97 model years, 75 hp, 107 lb.ft.
