it is a stub at the end of the A-arm which the steering knuckle rests on. I need to order this part because i bought a knuckle and it wont slip into my original stub because its too big. I didnt know there were 2 different sizes. I have a 90 Jetta GLI and i bought a knuckle from an 8V GLI and wont fit unless i get that 8V stub part.

Re: name this part... (idt512)

its called a ball joint.
the early ones were smaller, pre 87 or 88 I belive. Yeah if you have a knuckle from an 8V GLi it will be the smaller style.
You have 10.1" brakes on your '90 dont you? If so then you need a 10.1 knuckle anyways.
