Re: NEED BOOST (Turbobug)

T3/t4 kit would probably be excessive for that car, remember it wasnt designed to have a turbo, and you wont be able to runt the 20 lbs that some people are on the 1.8 T using a t3/t4. My old man has an 83 gti with an IHI turbo on it, running about 10 lbs of boost <--- silly fast. Anyways the turbo will not be your problem, the problem will be your exhaust mannifold, and fuel delivery. You would probably have to buy a cast iron manifold from someone, i dont believe the new 1.8T ports are in exactly the same spot, or that the studs will match up. That aside, you will have to add the required fuel, which most likely mean an engine management system with possible extra injectors. i think someone still sells turbo kits for the older 1.8 motors. Ill see if i can find who he got his setup from.

Re: NEED BOOST (enginerd)

come over to the forced induction forum. There's plenty of ways to do it. One of the best imo, is finding a junked corrado digifant-1 and strapping that on. Hell strap on the whole motor too its a tank. We made 214whp and 239ft/lbs off a 12 year old turbo g60 motor with just a 260 cam.
You can find $150 T3 flanged exhaust manifolds from psi here, and a junkyard turbo (or vargas turbo for a rebuild) really cheap. Fueling and timing is the biggest expense, but it aint no thang if you go the digifant-1 route.
