me and my friend are installing aftermarket foglights on his 1990 W/E jetta. we got the bulbs mounted and got the electrical stuff figured out, but i have 2 questions: how do i get through the firewall? and where should i get power?
We also can't get the dash off to reach the switch.

get power the simple and easy way...in the fuse box...you can usually rig an adapter to pull a hot lead out of one of the fuses, such as the parking or headlights for example, to get that small amount of power needed to trip the relay to "on". easiest way to run wires through the dash is to take off the lowest kick panel(i think 3 screws and a clip or two) and then figure out your preference thataways. getting through the fire wall is the easy part. find one of the many grommets and shove the wires on through!

Re: Need help, wiring fogligts (Tornado2dr)

already done. Thanks
We put the switch right above the headlight switch and tapped straight into the battery for power.

Re: Need help, wiring fogligts (eightvalvejettacarat)

no it won't because the circuit is open. The wire from the batt goes to the switch (which is normally off) and then from the switch goes to the fogs. After the fogs it goes back into the battery. This means that when the switch is open the circuit is broken and no current can flow.
