I did this on my 8V and it takes ~ an hour at a decent pace.
Just remove your pan, take out the pump bolts, swap 'er out, slap in da new one.
I haven't looked at my VR6 pan lately, but if the trans bell housing is covering a couple of the end bolts, you'll need a wobble/universal attachment to get em off. Not tough at all. Get a new gasket while your at it as well.
When you put in the new one, make sure it's lubed well with oil so the gears have a bit more suction to work with.
done and done!
