hi,
i have a mk1 sportline with a standard 8v i was looking to get a bit more power from it..... was told a 16v head is a good idea! any tips?
will it fit? and is there a big diference performance?
any other / beta tips?

Don't bother with the 16v head unless you are going to run a 16v block too.
To boost performance on your 8v start with the basic tuneup, making sure everything is working as it should.
Then get yourself a cam, exhaust and K&N filter. Adjustable cam gears are helpful in setting the powerband to your own personal driving style.

how much would a new cam cost? and what does that do?

A cam is about 120$ from http://www.autotech.com
The cam opens the valves further and keeps them open for longer durations. This allows more air to enter the engine and raises horsepower and torque. Of course a cam is really kind of pointless unless you get an intake or high flow filter and an aftermarket exhaust system.
It's all about improving airflow into and out of the engine.

where would u set the cam gear to in the 8v? i have a 268, believe its neuspeed not to sure cause it came out of my friends car that he doesnt use anymore.
