Hey everyone, sorry about the long post in advance. I hope that this is OK in the Car Lounge.
I've been on this board for quite a while, but I don't post much. But I'm always around enjoying the great post on this board. I need a huge favor if possible.
My brother owns a 1991 Jetta with the non turbo-diesel 1.8 motor. He lives about one hour away from me, and he's been at my place for the last week looking for a new job. He left his car at his appartment while he was up here. Well tonight he got a call from his roomate telling him that he caught these 2 guys trying to break into his car. He got the licence plate number of the suspects car, and he called 911. The cops showed up and caught the guys. The guys gave the cops some kind of story telling them that they where buying a car and that's why they where in my brother's parking lot. The cop checked out my brothers car and everything looked OK. Cop took the 2 guys info and let them go. As soon as the cop left, the 2 guys just stayed around the parking lot. So my my brothers roomate called my brother and told him that he should get down here and get his car since he didn't think the car was safe. So me and my brother decided to drive down to his appartment one hour away. While we where coming down, my brother roomate had to leave his appartment and when he got back, the car looked OK but the guys where gone. When we finally got to my brother appartment, we discovered that the guys had finished the job that they had started to do earlier. They destroyed my brothers dash, stole his stereo, trashed the inside of the car, stole all the side markers, broke the door handle and lock on the left side, stole his spare tire. So we decided to pop the hood and we noticed that they stole a bunch of stuff from under the hood also. The battery, and the rad are still in the engine bay, but everything electrical including alternator, and starter seem to be gone.
My brother also says that he's missing a part on the front of the motor that holds the oil filter and such. But he couldn't describe what the part looked like.
I was wondering if someone had a good picture of the engine bay from a 1991 Jetta Diesel. I'd like to know exactly what he's missing in the engine bay so that I can tell the cop exactly what they took. I'll be going down again tomorrow to get the car with a car dolly, but I'd still like to see what was in there before.
