So I'm getting rid of Clarion HX-D10

The reason is because it is virtually impossible to hook it up to the Monsoon.
I'm going to get a headunit with internal amplifier adn hook it up to Monsoon (easy).
I looked at quality of wires that Monsoon uses - those are super cheap wires. I think it is impossible to get any kind of decent sound with Monsoon. But that's what I'm going to do - use it until I have money and courage to replace it all.
So what would you recommend in the range of $200-400? I don't care about mp3 or features (visuals, XM, etc.), just sound quality for less money

Any suggestions? I'm currently looking at Kenwood MP8017, Kenwood z828 and JVC H99.

Re: Need something else (MADBUG)

How about Pioneer MP7400?
I can get it for $235 from etronics.com
I'd get Pioneer over JVC just because of the brand reputation.
Do you know about SQ?
I wanna repeat that Monsoon is crap and will probably blur any decent deck, so I need to be reasonable in SQ.

Thanks!

Re: Need something else (ColdFlameGTi)

Sq sound staging/imaging are my specialties!!! A couple years ago I would have never concidered JVC,even for a second. The SH - 99 is an excellant performing hu.The Sq and flexibility is just as good if not better then Pioneer and alot of other brands.
It's funny that you mention brand reputation.Every piece of Pioneer car audio I have ever owned didn't last but 6months before tons of problems percked up.The last hu of theirs I had was near the top of the line $800 Premier. It sounded great and had some nice features, but what good was it as far as longetivity?? Not much!!
I've had a few so called "high end" hu's which also had high end price tags.I can very confidently say that this particular JVC is just as good.

Re: Need something else (MADBUG)

Thanks for you comments!
The reason I favor Pioneer is that I have one in my other car (working for 3 years with no problems) and folks over at sounddomain.com forums like them.
Another reason is that at $235 it is a steal.

Re: Need something else (MADBUG)

If only I could find SH-99 locally and listen to it...
The best price I've seen on SH-99 is $300 now, even at etronics.
But I hate those cheesy new Pioneers and Kenwoods with a TV built in

I think CD player should play CDs, not show screensavers
