neuspeed p-flow a good option? do you lose power?

hey, i was wondering...
it seems on alot of the posts that people think the nuespeed p-flow will actually cuase your car to lose power due to the fact that it pulls in hot air from the engine compartment. is this true for the 2.o? some people said that it was only on the turbo's.
if you've got a pflow and have any comments, i would love to know them!!!! (especilly if you've done a dyno or anything)

haven't dynoed mine. But I used to have a P-flow. I switched back to my airbox with everything gutted. The P-flow did give a fairly decent sound

so why'd you get rid of it?

I would go with the Eurosport Coolflo it has a heatshield. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif Oh and people are always like well the heatshield is made out of metal and metal conducts heat, well to this find somone with a Coolflo who has been driving for a hour and pop the hood. Feel the heat shield.....Yes it is warm, now touch your stock airbox after driving for a hour.......hey yours is just as warm!
So basically it comes down to do you want to spend $200? If you dont do shows and want your car to look stock under the hood.... just drill the box. If you want it to be showy spend $200.

i got a new pflo this xmas on my 01 jetta 2.0. I gained a noticible amount of power and got some more throttle response. it also whizzes sometiems when i accelerate and i love that sound! it also sounds cooler at higher RPM's now. I just added a cat back exhaust with a free flow cat and it makes a world of a diffference. i love the combom. i say p-flo is a good investment

With the P-flow your basically paying for the mounting bracket. For 2/3 less you can buy a K&N cone filter, make or buy a heat shield, and fabricate your own bracket. All for under $70-$80. I have a K&N cone and heatshield and it does make a difference in both HP and throttle response - and the sound is nice.
Here's some pic's of my setup. With the heatshield I primed it and painted it engine enamel black to absorb even more heat. It looks a lot nicer too.

By the way, I have about three of these heatshield left if anyone wants one. $35 shipped and installs in 4 seconds with no tools or parts.

Yeah I know but like the rest of the car I like it a little dirty. Also I think K&N claims it actually works a little better dirty.

I have a P-Flo. I think I paid too much for it. USD270 inc. instalation. Performance increase. Above 3000rpm. At least now I can accelerate from 70 mpg to 90mph quicker. MPG dropped a bit initial but I attribute this to the malfunction of the O2 sensor. Happend twice and recently there was a recall, had the recall done and now the throttle response is superb. I don't feel any noticeable drop in power in the loweer revs so I am unable to tell. However, Max Power did a comparision once with the stock, K&N air filter in the stock box and an open cone filter. The K& N increased only about 1BHp at the top nothing noticeable across the rev range. the cone has 3BHP at the top end most of the gains come above 3000rpm. Bottomline. If you spend a lot of time above 3000rpm. Yeah , it makes sense.
It does have this loud intake(sucking) noise.
Re: neuspeed p-flow a good option? do you lose power? (brianpgriset)

I put a P-Flo in my 99 Golf 2.0L and after a day at the track, I threw my numbers into a HP calc on the web, and according to that, I gained 10hp off stock. Good for me. I also left the original airbox tubing in, so it wasn't just hot engine air I was sucking. Also, I recently added a small pair of hood scoops, one mounted right over the intake, the other over the coolant resevoir.
Re: neuspeed p-flow a good option? do you lose power? (brianpgriset)

techtonics did a couple of dynos awhile back and they proved that the stock airbox produced more hp/tq on an n/a engine than that produced by the same engine with an open element filter such as the p-flo

hey wild monkey,
you mean you left in the air tube running from the front valence that hooks directly to the airbox, right? i saw it while and wonderd to myself if it would be a good idea to leave it in since you can funnel some more cool air in.
of course, alot of you say the sound is good too, so thats cool.
thanks guys for the responses!

Just installed my P-Flo last weekend on my 99 2.0 IV. Now it may just be my imagination, but I do notice a slight increase in HP especially a cruising speeds or when downshifting. There is definitely a much better throttle response and a nicer sound. I say go for it!
