My speaker problems turned out to be the stereo. Was told the head unit is faulty and they have to order new one for me.
I asked if I could just get a $325 credit and put in my OWN (I live 3 hours away - have to drive back when it comes in) - he told me he didn't recommend it because of problems with wiring conflicts and after-market stereos. Hmm. Seems like all you guys are doing it without a problem - but I have seen some things on here about wiring and dash warning lights ....
Still burns me up, though

I guess better the stereo and not the car

Re: New '02 Jetta - Lemon Monsoon (jettanjax)

I'm worried they're going to put the Monsoon in and the problem will remain - I just don't trust the services techs' audio-related capabilities....
Does replacing the stereo include a new amp? I spoke to a car audio place before taking it all the way back to the dealer and the guy told me it sounded like a problem with the amp. I'm clueless about stereos

Luckily they didn't take the stereo out while I wait for the other to come in. Back speakers still don't work, but the front
ones do OK most of the time.....That's what confuses me ~The problem is intermittent -(sometimes kicks in when going over bumps, etc.) If a main unit is faulty, why do the front speakers work at ALL?
Dumb girl question, but curious, nonetheless.....

Re: New '02 Jetta - Lemon Monsoon (Bird)

Never be too sure that what they say is the true problem. I just got my 2002 Jetta back today after they (finally, I hope!) found the problem to the stereo problems I was having, after 10 trips to the dealer.
Started as faint popping sounds from rear passenger side--they replaced the seat clips, tightened door panels, etc. Problem still existed after 4 trips in.
In December, the rear passenger door speaker started making static sounds over bumps, train tracks, etc. They replace the speaker. Takes 2 trips because they diagnose the problem and then need to order the part and install it on the second trip. Static still exists.
Take the car back in Mid January. They replace the amp this time. Takes 2 trips again because they diagnose the problem and then need to order the part and install it on the second trip. Static still exists.
Take my car in again on Wednesday. They FINALLY determine that all along, the problem was that one of the wire connections was improperly installed so that it was turned 90 from normal. Rather than the wire fitting into the amp socket, it was instead just butting up to it! Seems OK finally, but I only drove it 20 miuntes from the dealer back to the office. Well see...

Keep me posted how it's working. I'll mention your problem w/ amp wiring when they install my new stereo - b/c I just CAN'T make that 6 hour trip there and back 10 times!!
I really appreciate your input!

Blipsman~~~
Can you tell me whether you had a problem with background noise/engine interference with your stereo, too?
Tic tic tic tic tic in the background - also some engine whine interference. Just curious...
