Hi,
1. Where can I find a good check list for picking up a new car? (I have heard things like I should make sure that the car doesn't have more than 20 miles on it, make sure the VIN number on the contract matches the one in the dash, etc). Is there an official checklist?
2. Where can I find NJ (or federal) laws that protects the consumer when buying new car from various things. Just want to understand my rights. Lemon laws, etc, etc.

Although it would be nice to limit mileage to 20, people do test drive the cars for "feel" and sometimes put 50-60 mi. on, then, say, go for another color. I would be more concerned w/ body panel alignment, doors closing right, no loose fabric, the glove box opens and closes easily, and dents or scratches. Also ask the salesperson to go over the vw checklist with you. Don't let them rush you. As far as a generic checklist, I do believe there's one out there but don't know where. Make sure if you have the 10mph locking enabled, that when you turn the car off and remove the key that the doors unlock.

Your PDI checklist should come with the car. Call VW if it doesn't: they will be very interested to hear that.
And don't worry about the miles so much. Just check the car over well--and in good light.

Why would you want the doors to unlock? When you stop the car, pull out the key, and lift the handle, don't the doors open? You don't need to unlock them first.

I dont want my doors to unlock automatically ever. Without my explicit action.
