Don't be so hasty to shoot him down....they've already announced it for the TT (but I think europe only) Probably won't happen for a while, but it is being discussed. Mk5 material perhaps......

tubocharged 2.0 litre I-4 20v produce 245 hp...
... however, if it ever happens, we will not get it soon b/c Audi will use it for the A4 and TT...
it's not a mind-blowing change, it's only a logical progression... and I can believe a turbocharged I-4 20v is capable of making 245 hp...
it's not far fetched

This change, along with 4Motion, would get me into a GTI...for years Japanese have been putting Turbocharged 2.0s in their WRC cars and their street legal counterparts...
Nissan has the new SR20VET in the X Trail
Subaru uses one in the WRX STi
Mitsu in the Lancer Evo VII
All make (conservatively) around 280HP.

Depends on what 2.0l engine you are referring to...
Volkswagen is working on a brand new version of their 2.0l with 4-valves per cylinder, direct injection, and turbocharging. It will appear here first in the new Golf V around the beginning of 2005.
Interesting on the Audi 2.0T engine as I hadn't heard about this yet (haven't been watching the Audi info lately, but I haven't seen anything official from Audi AG about a turbo version of the current 2.0l 4-cylinder). It is also my understanding that Audi is ditching the 5-valve technology so they can move to direct-injection in all their engines.

so it sounds like theres a good chance that the 2.0T will be in the mk5 and audi since they ususally share engines to cut down cost?
i heard the 2.0t would be around 245 hp though... what would hapeen to the vr6's then? even the 3.2L vr6 would just be around 240 i thought? so they gonna lower the boost on the 2.0t?

I too have come across information about VW upping the displacement of the 1.8T to 2 liters. However, on the same token, I've also come across information that says with the jump in displacement, torque would increase rather significantly, but HP would make a more modest increase. I pose this question, if the new 2.0T produces 245hp, then why would VW implement the 3.2 24v VR6 making 240hp?? Doesn't sound right to me.

Some clarification on this-
Audi has a new 5v 2.0l 4-cylinder normally aspirated motor that is sold in the new Audi A4 in Europe. I have not heard specifically that they plan to turbocharge this engine yet, but it may happen.
Volkswagen is working on its own new version of the existing 2.0l 4-cylinder with direct injection, 4 valves per cylinder and turbocharging that I mentioned earlier. It will be coming in the Golf V/Jetta V at its base power of 180hp (although it is capable of much more as VW may up the power depending on what market segment competition is when the Golf V is finally released in 2004).
