New Altima Motor Trend TV (on Speedvision) test.

Did anyone see this show. I think it aired last week sometime. They were able to get the new Altima 3.5SE to 60mph from a standstill in 5.9 seconds!! I couldn't believe it. I see embarrassment in the future for IS300/Accord V6/Acura TL Type S in a street light scrap http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif ...talk about bang for the buck! Nissan is really stepping up to the plate over the next year and I am glad to see them come out of the corner swingin' with the Altima/Maxima/350Z.

The Altima is the fastest "family" sedan I know for that price. Now you know why its winning all the awards. I still insist that Nissan should spend a few more $$ on the interior.

I think Nissan should've started the car at around $19,000 instead of $16,000 in order to up the inter quality just that little bit. Otherwise the car is practicly flawless in my eyes.

"If this, if that... then it's a flawless car." Well, that statement can apply to practically any car.
The shortcomings of the interior was a major one, imo. For people who don't care about interiors, then yes, it's a great car. But I believe the majority of us still consider having a quality interior to be quite important.
I sat in a top-of-line Altima at the Montreal car show 2 weeks ago, and could not believe how cheap the plastics were. It just did not fit in with everything else the car had to offer.
That pop-up storage bin in the centre console was an absolute joke, as was the light, loosely-held, plastic stereo buttons they used. And that so-called "cupholder" felt like a dollar-store kindergarten lunchbox.
It really seemd like all these plastic pieces were thrown into this car as an after-thought. Very disappointing on an otherwise great-looking car with performance to match.

Re: New Altima Motor Trend TV (speedracer3)

Nissan has an intention to make a cheap interior for Altima, in terms of market positioning . If they produced an interior as nice as a Maxima, who the hell would pay for a more expensive car with same engine. The top-end SE 3.5 has cannabalized some sales into Maxima GXE. If you want the same sporty dynamics with nicer interior, go Maxima SE. If you want Infiniti emblems, RWD dynamics with same VQ35DE. Buy G35.

The Altima is fast, but fortunately not too many people who likes to street race would buy an Altima, so I guess we don't need to worry about it too much. But isn't the Maxima 3.5 even faster?

Sport Compact Honda's road test says Altima is quicker than Maxima, even though latter has 20+ more horses. What a surprise. In reality, I don't feel any difference since both have the sweet VQ35DE.
