New Driving How To Tell what the dealer tests drives have done.

As some know, looking at 2002 gti 1.8 possibly - -my question is, if we're supposed to drive it gently the first 1000 miles, how do we know the following:
1) How the dealer, tech drove it the first few miles after it arrives at the dealer.

2) I'm assuming knowone here would buy a car that was used for test drives?
3) How can we tell uif our car was driven by someone else vs KNOWONE ever driving it.
i.e what's the standard miles on a brand new never driven car?
thanks and cheers,
frankii

Your car is always test driven. When we get our paperwork for PDIs it requires a 5051 diag and then a test drive and then you re 5051 the car when hot. There is no way of really knowing how your car was driven. A new car when we get them will have anywhere from .7 to 3 miles on it.

A new car definitely shouldn't have more than 5-7 miles on it AT MOST. More than 7 miles and, I would tell them you want a different car. At some ports, more driving is required to transfer cars and, they end up with slightly higher mileage at the dealer. I know that Tampa's port and distribution center is like this (VW's coming from Central and South America).

At the same time, you don't have an F1 racer or a top fuel funny car that needs a tear-down/rebuild after every drive.
I'm not saying TRUST the dealer implicitly, but most (not all) techs do not beat on cars. The headaches that can cause them isn't worth the momentary thrill. Besides, these are 150-180 VW's....ooooh powerful. Yet another reason to doubt they're ridden hard.
On top of that, you get your warranty + whatever is on the clock. Like 50,007 or whatever is on there....Both my GTI GLX and GLS were from dealer transfers 200+ miles away.
Not one engine/drivetrain problem. It's not worth the worry.
