Re: New GTI Test - Spy Shots (Tarik)

interesting. i don't know if this is old news or not, i really havne't been keeping up with the new Golf/GTi 5. Still, i think it's looking pretty decent. i actually don't mind the weird black are in the front.
QUOTE:
"Seen here undergoing brake tests, (or on the way out to lunch after some), the GTI is fitted with a new, 2.0-litre FSI petrol engine, turbocharged to produce 200bhp. That's powerful, but not powerful enough to make it the fastest hot-hatch on the block - expect 0-62mph to take more than seven seconds, and a top speed of around 140mph."

If there is any truth to that, i wonder if VW is being very conservative in it's power estimates. I eman really, the actual 0-60 for the 180hp turbo was a second less than what they stated. If the car is about the same wight, makes 20HP more, it's got to be faster. . . unless they did something wack with the transmission or torque curve.

Re: New GTI Test - Spy Shots (Tarik)

Cool pics. I'm liking the look. Interestingly enough though, AutoCar also critisized the GTi power in their review of the car two issues back. They said that 200 bhp sounds nice, but with the GTi tipping 3000 lbs., it wasn't going to be a screamer by any means. It's scary when the automotive media labels a pre-production car unfit for today's competition. I mean, it makes you wonder if (in terms of being a "hot hatch") it will be completely undesirable by the time it makes it off the boat. I mean, if the media is taking stabs at the lack of power, think of how the tuner crowd will feel. We're usually much less forgiving.

It seems like it has a high hoodline, kinda like the Mazda 3 type idea. I'm not sure if I'm overly wowed by that or not.

What's with the rear license plate? The rear bumper is US-spec, not Euro-spec, and that license plate looks Japanese or something...

Side-shot nose front shapes like the new Imprezas.

All new cars will have the long nose due to the new Ero laws right? Might as well get used to it, so far I am liking it more and more, and after seeing one in France a few months ago it grew on me in person...
Edit: I saw a 4-door not a GTI

Paint the rear valence to match the body color...
and i'm assuming this will be as quick, if not quicker than the current 1.8T GTI.

Would you rather have a thick, massive A-pillar that blocks your vision going around corners?
I like the look of the car, hope it's fun to drive. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif
