Has anyone heard anything about the release of the new Microbus?
I notice that the latest US ads featuring the "kooky engineers and designers" allude to the Microbus coming down the road towards them. I've also heard from a local dealer that the release was postponed due to wiring glitches in the DVD system. He didn't seem to know anything about release dates so I have no idea if he really even knew anything - probably just typical dealer BS.

Nobody know anything certain on this car yet, except the board at VW. I suggest you read the inteview with Dr. Neumann, who's in the board at Volkswagen. The interview is found here. He did mention the development of the Microbus, and if and when they will release it.

You're right. That is BS because he didnt know anything abot the car and made up something to get you off his back. I'm sure if you send someone in to ask about the car, they'll get a completely different answer

Well, I guess it's a good news/bad news thing. Good news is the prospects look good. Bad news is they still haven't decided (they originally announced that they would decide by the Detroit Auto Show) and that if it is a Go, it wont arrive until two years from now.
From the above article:
" Pischetsrieder said here the company will decide in June whether to put the Microbus into production. The round-nosed minivan, unveiled as a concept at the 2001 Detroit auto show, could be in dealerships within two years after approval. "

I love my Jetta TDI Wagon, but it is a little tight with 5 passengers (esp when 4 of the 5 are in the 220-260 range

). I have been a van owner since 1982 and still have my 89 Dodge Maxi. I would love to have one of the new VW Microbus' for trips, esp if it were TDI

and keep my Jetta Wagon for my 25 mile daily commute.
