I was in for 20k Service today and I see a passat a dealer is peppering with brochures. I check under the hood and I see a Very Strange Badge. V6 30V

I know I've read about the 24v V6 but a 30v?
It has 5 valves per cylinder. Thats ALMOST like a 1.8t NO (Just Trying to keep it on topic

Re: New Passat Engine?... (Bug_Power)

Been out in the A4 and the Passat since I think 98. The older ones are 2.8l 30v V-6 and have 190hp nice and smooth engine, decent power. It is what the S4 is built off I believe, except they don't have as big of displacement for strength I'm assuming

I seem to rember reading on A.W. that the S4 motor was based on a Europe only TDI V6 that was debored to allow for a larger head gasket to handle the boost better. It could be they made the c.r. lower with pistons and heads interchangeable with a little bit of tweaking sort of like a Ford Cleveland head will fit on a windsor block type thing.

I don't know what the deal is, but that makes perfect sense, if they put a head with more volume to bring the CR from 1:19 to 1:9.5 and .5mm shaved off the sides of each cylinder would put you right at 2.7L. FYI 1mm off the walls of 2.7 makes just over 2.8. thats about a 4% gain or 12hp on a chipped S4
