http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif Always wanted to do it but being lazy is so much easier.
Did you clear your current strips or buy new?

Matt, the original strips were all removed. The original door strips are destroyed in the process of removal. The front/rear bumper strips are now taking up space in the basement.

Re: New Rub Strips. :) (Claussen)

I was checking out your pics and stumbled across this one with my signature on it.

I had to test all 60 of those 6 disc in dash CD changers that we sent out, it was really really bring because I heared the first 5 sec of the same song by the same artist almost 60 times until I started hitting the random button. I listened to my Bob Marley greatest hits album to keep me from going insane. How did that changer work out?

That's a good eye that you have there. The picture that you found is actually from a friend's car. He has the 6 disc in-dash changer in his Mk4 Jetta. He loves it. If I didn't have an Empeg mounted in my 2nd DIN, I'd be hitting you up for one too.

I find it funny that you fit the black textured rub strips. They come as standard on the 1.8T in Australia. You have to buy the V6 to get colour coded bump strips! Then again, Climatronic and the leather 3-spoke steering wheel are also standard on the 1.8T here.
A word of warning -- they are a bugger to clean once you get some wax/polish on them. I've tried Mother's Back to Black but everytime it rains, I get that powder finsh on them again.

I have the three piece front bumber strip. It came primed and I painted it to match since I already have the lower valances painted. BTW, I just finished my headlight washers, so now I have the Euro front end minus the factory HID's (can't wait to get my tax return check!)

I'm glad someone else find humor in this too. I'm taking a GLX model and putting a lower end trim package on it.
The things one does to be different. It's definately different, and definately Euro.

Thanks for the warning. I'll be expecially careful (anal) with them. I was worried that would be the case (bitch to keep clean, not the anal part). My plan is to actually mask them off before I wax. Hopefully that will do the trick.

How difficult was that to retrofit in? That's coming up fast on my list of mod's.
How difficult were the parts to obtain? Cost? Pix?

You can look at it two ways..It's a bit of a pain, but really it isn't. I work at a dealer, so tthe parts were cheaper for me. The average customer would be spending between $500-$600. All the parts necessary are in the VW parts catalog at the dealer. Though I believe, Hella makes a retro-fit kit. The hardest part for me was being patient with the wiring. You have to have your headlights on for them to work. You will need a relay and wiring and a few connectors. I don't have a didital camera, but my friend just got one. Believe me, there is a lot of stuff on my car I want to show you guys. E-mail me if you want more precise info.

Re: New Rub Strips. :) (Claussen)

I finally found a product that totally removes wax/polish on the black textured bump strips. I saw people on Club B5 posting that they had used it on the lower black valences and I thought I'd give it a try.
The amazing product is Peanut Butter!
I actually applied the Peanut Butter before washing the car and the bump strips were still looking like new when I'd finished.
