Put a remanufactered started in my '92 VR6 C this weekend to try to solve an occasional no crank problem. Now it won't crank at all. I do hear the solenoid click (so it's not the ignition switch) but no engine turn over. I'm thinking the flywheel teeth are not meshing with the new starter and need moving a bit (by rocking the car while in gear). Will try tonight. Maybe the battery cables are too old/corroded so I'm not getting full volts at the starter? Maybe I have flywheel tooth missing?
All clues greatfully appreciated.

Re: New starter, no cranking (tornado)

Yep, I would check your connections. Take some sandpaper to em.
Sounds like a case of not enough amperage arriving at the starter.

make sure your starter is mounted correctly if your starter bushing is missing it can have a play that will not allow the starter to turn over missing teeth will usually just make a nasty sound.

Re: New starter, no cranking (kingofA2`s)

Hmmm, my new starter did come with a new bushing, but I could not figure out how to remove the old, so I left the old in in. Any suggestions on how to remove?

Chisel a slit in the side of the copper (bronze??) bushing and it'll pop out. Take care not to damage the bell housing whilst you're hacking away.
As for your starting problem, run another earth direct from the starter mounting bolt to the battery, it helps lots. I rewired my starter/ chrager system with fat cable and gold plated audio grade connectors. It's never failed to start since.
Look closely and you'll see what I mean.

Problem Solved

Well, I took the starter out lastnight after all other attempts to crank failed. New cables from the battery to ground & to starter stud made no big diff, although the solenoid sound seemed louder. After pulling the starter out I connected it up to the battery using some jumpers and tested it. The solenoid clicked 3 time before the motor turned! Guess it was just a little stuck.
Re-installed it and the motor fired right up!
