new TDI Pumpe Duse

I know north american fuel is not like European fuel and I know the emissions standard in North America are much harder to meet than European standards, but it would really be nice if Volkswagen would be able to find a way to bring in the new Pumpe Duse TDI's real soon. I have a Passat TDI 1996 with Wetterauer and it runs real fine at 215,000Km, but, nevertheless, I have the urge to have a new car. Assuming we have to wait one or two years more to get a TDI PD, does it make sense to buy right now the 90hp Jetta or Golf, or is it better to wait? I do about 40,000Km per year, which is about 25,000 miles a year, mostly highway driving.

Re: new TDI Pumpe Duse (Viking)

I think someone posted on http://www.tdiclub.com that northamerican fuel standards for diesels will be changing in 2004? I still dont think it will enable us to drive the PD-TDI though. Do a search on tdiclub for the username Skypup.

id wait till the 5th generation of Golf/Jetta are available in a few years. Maybe when the next generation of TDIs are released, they will bring the PDs here.
Re: new TDI Pumpe Duse (HIDGolf)

VW announced that the new 100 hp PD TDi which has replaced the 90 hp in Europe will be imported here (NA) and that it already meets the stricter proposed emmissions standards for 2004 icluding Californias tougher requirements.
