New to me 2012 3.6 SE (Introduction and questions)

Here because I purchased the Passat from a local Honda dealer on 04Jan.
2012 3.6 SE with just under 108K miles on the clock.
Everything works but engine smoothness and performance just isn't quite "up to and touching" for my tastes.

I've spent every single spare minute of every single spare day since purchase, just learning what I can about the Passat.
I hate that shop and parts manuals are hard to come by. Well, I haven't found either yet.
And trying to find simple things like spark plugs and coils is a trying experience. Can't even find the numbers spelled out on this forum.

So if anyone can tell me the spark plugs and coils I need to buy when replacements are needed, I'd greatly appreciate it ... and spark plug torque specs !!! :)

I'll be 70 this year. Retired Navy Chief. First Volkswagen since I owned two Beetle's back in the very early 70's.
Shocked to find this 280hp Passat VR6 gets just about the same gas mileage as those earlier Beetle's did ... Whoa

Only picture I have at the moment was taken as an intended post on "my" pocket knife forum but the pocket knife wasn't focused D'OH
I bought the Jeep brand spanking new in 2003 and it only has 57K on it

I've had the Jeep so long she's like family and I long ago named her Ruby
Since the Passat color is "Candy White" (sounds like a porn name) ... I named her Candy
She may not be a porn star, but she's a fast girl :D

... oh, and the nearest Volkswagen dealer to me is the next city over ... about 30 or so miles away.
So, I'd prefer to do simple maintenance myself. I've already run a can of STP Pro Series Intake Valve Cleaner through Candy ... think it helped a little.
Next up is replacing the oil and filter. The local Honda dealer already changed it as part of the readiness for sale, but I can't be sure of what they used.

Probably not.
It's a direct injection motor and you might want to check for carbon buildup, and the best way to clean it is to MANUALLY scrub/clean it. There is no magic in a can/bottle that'll just "wash" it away

Might want to check the timing chain stretch too.....guides and chains are known maintenance items when the mileage gets higher (100k-120k area)

Make sure the DSG trans has been serviced too! (every 40k miles it's required)

Dan's suggestions above are spot on, especially keeping up with the DSG tranny service every 40K miles. It never hurts to have the official maintenenance schedule for your vehicle at hand, so here it is:

And, for good measure, here's the sales card for the '12 Passats, too:

Welcome to the world of V6's.
