new to the mk3 world, have some quick Qs

hey guys, my friend just recently purchased a 95 gti vr6. we have been looking at doing some things to it but i am not sure how to do them. this is where you guys come in. i would really appreciate some help so here it goes:
1: currently the side markers, on the bumper, are the stock orange color. to go with the smoked out theme he is going to order smoked lenses. my question is how do you remove the lense? on my mk4 i can just push in, slide forward and they pop out. is it the same thing, i tried but didnt have much success.
2: also to go with the smoked theme, we want to replace the lights in the front from clear to smoked. how hard is it to change them? does the bumper need to be removed?
3: we both agree that the emblems would look sweet painted black. how is this procedure done? does the grill and rear symbol need to be removed or can it just be masked off?
we also are going to paint the calipers black but i know how to do that as its not very hard. i know my questions are very fundamental but i want to do it correctly. so please, if you could take a minute and describe a procedure or two to me i would really appreciate the help.

currently, the car is sporting 17in borbets, the stock 15s are pictured here.

2: also to go with the smoked theme, we want to replace the lights in the front from clear to smoked. how hard is it to change them? does the bumper need to be removed? hella sells the smoked covers becarful which ones you buy some are for the european bumper and that means u would have to modify you stock bumper to fit them again
3: we both agree that the emblems would look sweet painted black. how is this procedure done? does the grill and rear symbol need to be removed or can it just be masked off? You can buy the front one from http://www.parts4vws.com, and the rear emblem id call up tuning zubehor and get the golf highline rear emblem its flat and smooth like the bettle emblems but black and silver i have one its nice!
we also are going to paint the calipers black but i know how to do that as its not very hard. i know my questions are very fundamental but i want to do it correctly. so please, if you could take a minute and describe a procedure or two to me i would really appreciate the help. Foila teck sells caliper paint in black but it cost about $50, you could just buy engine paint/high temp spray paint make everything off and spray it it gets kinda sloppy thou, id go foila tec and brush it on, but the down side is it take about a day to dry

1. sidemarkers on the bumper are cake to get off. lok on the wheel liner (inside the fendr and spy the plastic clip near where the markr is) pop it out with a flathead. this will let you pull the liner away a tad to gain access to the back of the light. on the left side of both lights as you look at them there is a clip that you can feel if you reach in past the liner. push that clip in and the light will pop out. get it out, unhook the harness, put the new one in and you're golden.
2. lights up front are even easier to get out. i use a small flathead and pry them out. you'll want to put the pry device between the blinker and te next piece on both sides. put it in thee and twist gently. again, very easy. pop em out and put new ones in. bumper skin stays on.
3. front badge can be taken off to spray. i left both of mie on and taped erthing off good. scuff em up a bit and go to town dude. good luck to ya. hope this helped a bit. any q's please yell.

1: get the smoked side markers from timmonsvw ($20)..their number is at http://www.timmonsvw.com. to remove them, carefully take a flat head screw driver and pry them out on one of the sides, i forget which side it is.
2: not sure if i understand you fully on your hella dual rounds question, but if you want the smoked version im pretty sure you have to sell those and buy the smoked hella dual rounds. dont have to remove the bumper to change lights
3: to paint the front emblem, take off the grill and pry out the three clips on the emblem, dont paint with the emblems on th car, overspray will cover the car. the rear emblem comes off wih some force, its held on with tape. just take them off and sand and paint them.
there are plenty of websites that describe how to paint the calipers, its pretty straight forward. just do a search for website that shows how to paint calipers. hope this was of some help to you, and good luck.

hey guys thanx for the replies. another question about the front fog light area though: after i 'pop' them out with a screw driver how do the new ones go in? do they just push in and snap in place? also, as far as removing the grill to get to the front emblem, where are the clips, can i just pull the grill out? does anyone have any sites which explains stuff like this and other do it yourself mods in detail?
again, thanx for the replies and keep them coming

1) the fogs do not pop out.. the dummies (the middle ones) pop out then you need a 8MM wrench to get in there and hold the bolts on the inside of the bumpers...
2) to remove the grill.. remove the 4 screws on top between the headlights on the rad support.. then there are 2 tabs, one under each head light.. then the emblem clips to that..
