newbie question: Spark plug change on cyinder 2-3

got a few questions that im sure are easy ones...these are all pertaining to my first tune up project of my 2.0l 1999 Golf.
First, i changed the rotor & Distributor cap. then i changed spark plugs of cylinder 1 and cylinder 4 (both ends) and now its too dang cold to do the other ones, so i will have to wait for tomorrow. GOod thing is that the car started so i got all my wires right. The idle is not all that rough but when i step on gas it gets a little rougher, the engine shakes. Is this because i didnt do the other spark plugs ?
I got the Bosh Platinum pllugs from UAP Napa. I thought they were pre-gapped for the right size. am i right or do i need to run out and adjust them? Could this be causing the rough idle?.... the spec is 0.024 inch gap and it looked about right.
Also, the Check Engine light came on. is this because the spark plugs are split with 2 good ones and 2 bad ones?? I was able to back the car no problem and drove it forward a little bit to park it. no stall or anything.
Thanks!!!!!

probably due to the mismatched spark plugs... double check the gapping though... i never trust factory gapping... Do you know how to get to #2 & #3? You have to disconnect the Injector wire from the cylinder you are trying to change, and get a swivel for the spark plug socket, with a nice long extension... and sometimes you need to reach from underneath the manifold to guide the socket on there... AND DONT FORGET TO USE SPARK PLUG WIRE PULLERS!! You DO NOT want to break those wires...

hey thanks! I am just heading to NAPA too to pick up a wire puller and a gap checker with my gf's car. I will measure the gap on hte 2 spark plugs left to go and see if theyre good. if they need adjustment i will pull hte ones that r in and adjust htem. Best way to adjust them is by bending the notch right?
Thanks!

On changing my plugs one time I had the same ruff idling problem. It was as though I had a 300+ cam in there. It turned out to be a loose injector connector. It must have been 2 or 3 as those have to come off to change the plugs.

oooh... bajan... never thought of that... sometimes my girl's car idle's rough, and i thought it might have been throwing an injector code... i'll check that tonight...

I did have those 2 blue clips undone and started my engine. the check engine light came on and now it wont come off
Any clues on how to get that off of there??

What year is you car? The following webpage may help if your car is a 1995 or older. Otherwise you may have to get a dealer/vw shop to clear it.

Give yourself a good half hour for our plugs, it sucks i know. Everthing else is engineered almost perfect, this is one of maybe a dozen dumbass things those Germans did.
