the stuff your dad has is fine ... what meguiars is it?
you should wash, dry then apply the imperial hand glaze. you just wipe on, and buff off right away.
then top it off with some carnauba wax (meguiars, blitz, etc)
what type of towels?
use microfiber towels to buff ... they will not scratch or streak and they are extremely soft (www.yosteve.com)
how to actually go about waxing the car?
apply the wax in a back and forth motion, don't use circular, even though the instructions may say so.
how long should i let it dry?
carnauba should be about 10 minutes, or let dry to a slight haze, then buff.
the imperial hand glaze you can buff off 5 minutes after you apply

depends on what meguairs it is .. you can follow the hand glaze with the meguiars if it's a carnauba wax
process:
wash, dry, imperial hand glaze, carnauba wax = shiny, clean dub

i'm an amateur when it comes to this stuff, so if i said anything incorrect i apologize, and hopefully someone with a bit more experience will help out

btw, i just did : wash, imperial hand glaze, klasse sealant glaze, mothers 100% carnauba yesterday and it looks great! good luck http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif
