non technical guy here - quick question:

what exactly is a "control arm", and does my 2002 Cabrio really have one? What does it look like, and where is it?

Also known as A-arm. It's the link between the chassis and lower mounting points for front suspension. Your car has one, actually 2.

thanks. in the rear of the car, what type of suspension components are back there? shocks/struts, that is it, right? no sway bars, no arms or rods? just the hub/brakes/wheels, and struts/shocks. am i missing something?

The rear is a trailing arm setup, some with integrated rear swaybars if not all.
