now what's the problem?.....(sigh)

ok so i'm driving last night in the rain and hit a couple of puddles, then it starts to run like crap, sputtering, stalling, if i floored it it was just barely able to keep itself running at about 300rpm. it did it twice today on start up after hitting no puddles
i finally decided to look under the hood to find the alternator belt had flipped itself over. thinking this might have something to do with it i flipped it back (i'll probably put a new one on soon). guess what? it made no difference
upon start up it ran fine for about fifteen seconds until the revs dropped and it stalled.
i also noticed another strange problem in the last few weeks-when turning a corner at full steering lock the car will stall sometimes, could this have anything to do with it?
my head gasket is in need of replacement cuz i've noticed a trace of antifreeze in the oil on occasion and there is seepage on the outside of the block as well, possible cause.
any insight will be greatly appreciated http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

Well, your belts sound like they are very loose, and probably need to be replaced. It's not uncommon for cars w/o the splash guard to experience belt slippage when you hit a big puddle--fun if you have PS and are turning. I suspect it's also why v-belts wear quite quickly in A2's. But if your belt is inverting? I'd replace them ASAP.

splashguard is in place, how can i tell if i doused my distibutor?, and how can i protect against it?
the belt will be replaced tomorrow hopefully

hahaha, this happened to me the other night. I was doing a U turn and suddenly it got all stiff, I almost hit the curb.
What is the part # for the splash guard?

even worse is having it happen at speed...there is this fast freway on ramp by my house....about 50 yards before a corner there is sometimes a large puddle...before I installed a splash guard I would hit this puddle...and lay into the turn, and the steering would be very HEAVY. Yikes

If your belt is Ok then your pulleys could be misaligned, or sometimes a ding in the edge of one of the pulleys can flip a belt over. Try looking down at the belt while the engine is running, you should be able to see if one of the pulleys is out of line.

maybe i'll grab a cap and rotor while i'm out too.
i'm pretty sure there is a little mis alignment cuz i've gone through three water pumps and three alternators in the 100,ooo miles under my ownership

the belt snapped last night, i managed to get a bout two parking spaces down from where i parked it last and then the alternator light came on, damn
