I remember, owning a Corrado, it was recommended to use a relayed wiring system (adding relays to the existing electrical wiring) to use the higher wattage european headlights.
I now own a 2002 GTI with the famed 2003 model OEM HIDs. I notice on initial HID ignition, that the beam is really dim blue, gradually getting brighter. I also noticed that theres a 1/2 second delay between flipping the switch to ignition.
My previous HID kit seemed slightly brighter upon ignition with no delay.

Is there relay circuity in the conversion from 10 to 12 pin harness?

Re: OEM HID, relays needed? (fahrfrumlosin)

I've added a relay because I'm worried that the low voltage startups will damage the ballasts and one day destroy them!

Re: OEM HID, relays needed? (Lams)

Would you by any chance have a link to the schematic on how to create a relayed system?
Or do you know where I can just buy relayed harnesses?

I remember this was discussed earlier, the conclusion was no need for a relay in the OEM HID system.
However it can't hurt, right? I would be worried if fuses were burning out, for example...
However form your own opinion, check:

What you see after turning them on is normal, the light is blueish, and after a few minutes it turns white.
