Official Lowered B7 Passat Thread

Since entering the Passat realm, I have been seeing many questions pertaining to lowering (coilovers, springs, and air). To help consolidate everything to one location, This thread will be spot for information, photos, and questions regarding lowering the B7 (NMS) platform.

Currently, there are not many, if any, companies that are manufacturing B7 Passat specific coilovers, springs, or air kits. But it has been confirmed that kits for the MkV and MkVI platforms (with independent rear suspension) will be a direct fit.

That being said, here is a comprehensive list of suspension components. This also includes replacement bolts, mounts, and bearings. If I am missing something, feel free to PM me and I will add it to this thread.

Please, refrain from quoting full images and videos. Image quotes tend to clutter a thread.

- Front Upper Strut Mount: 1K0-412-331-B (MSRP $59.50 each)
- Front Upper Strut Nut: N-910-216-01 (MSRP $2.80 each)
- Front Upper Strut Mount Bolts (three per side): N-101-277-07 (MSRP $1.50 each)
- Front Lower Strut Pinch Bolt: N-909-548-02 (MSRP $3.00 each)
- Front Lower Strut Pinch Bolt Nut: N-101-064-02 (MSRP $0.90 each)
- Rear Upper Shock Nut: N-103-041-02 (MSRP $0.90 each)

You Sir are awesome! Thank you for this.
Good info!

You can add the HPA SHS coilovers as well....that's what I'm riding on:
http://www.hpamotorsport.com/shs1.htm

Similar to the KW V1's, but with a lower price & more comfortable ride

Subscribed, thanks for all the info.
I just received my ST coilovers, but after reading a few things on them I have debated on sending them back and either buying h&r springs or the h&r coilover kit. I am running 20x8.5 and a 245 35 20 tire so any advice would be awesoooommmeee :)

I will try to add a list of camber plates today or tomorrow.

You need to have your files hosted on something like Facebook, Flickr, or Photobucket.

Don't go with 245, way too wide. Stick with 235 or 225.

i just had to post a picture of my car lol
Haha...much appreciated. What's your setup? Also, still want those wheels...had a chance to get a set but since you and VAGwhore have them, I didn't want to be number three.

well thats not a good thing to hear, due to me already having them mounted. are they too wide due to lowering? if so i'm not looking for a slammed look, just killing the wheel gap mainly.

Depending on drop, you don't want to risk getting close to the fenders. THIS LINK is a huge help. 235/35R20 is your best bet, but I personally would run the 225/35R20.

Sounds good, Like i said i only plan on just eliminating wheel gap and have debated on sending the st coilovers back and either doing just springs, or the non adj h&r coilover kit. The other issue im battling with is if i should because if it voids the warranty for lowering i wasted 2k on the ext warranty. lots of things to think about. thanks for the help:thumbup:

you stationed in MIA for the coast guard?
I hope to join this crowd soon. I have a little over 6500 miles on mine. I want to get lowered and new wheels and tires. Im having a hard time deciding on how to lower. I drive about 650 miles a week so comfort is key. The cool thing is i do all my commuting on 1 tank of diesel. Any opinions would be appreciated as to which way to go on the lowering. Springs only, or coils?

Springs will most likely need new shocks paired with them for a good ride (especially on a DD).....which could be $250 for springs & at least $500 for struts/shocks.
And you're at a set height

That same amount of money can buy you coilovers with a nice ride & also the freedom to dial in whatever height you want

IMO: Coilovers
Springs only, or coils?
The best value is a set of coilovers. By the time you spend money on springs and shocks, you might as well buy coilovers. Fine tuning is huge. I had springs on my MkV GLI and I regret ever doing it...waste of money.
