oil consumption??????

i have been hearing rumors (and i saw a post on the jim ellis thread) that vws are known for excessive oil comsumption. it this true? even .8 quarts is excessive. my grand prix doesnt even burn that much.

man, there is a thread in the 2.0 litre forum about this. It all depends on the car you get plus the engine. Still a VW will knock the socks off that grand prix!!! hehe

I've got a 2.0 and it has been burning about 1 quart between oil changes (5K). I have noticed though since the last oil change it hasn't burned any yet and I'm getting close to my next oil change. I've got 28K on it now. Some say it'll do that until about 50K.

Y does the 2.0 do that? My VR6 dont consume oil @ all. or not noticable anyways.
Faulty head gasket maybe? Or seals bad?
Wont the dealer look into it?

I don't think it's not normal, so I've never approached the dealer about it. It's gotten better this oil change, so I really don't have a complaint anymore.

Some 2.0s seem to use oil excessively. VW says a quart per 1,000 miles is normal, hard to believe. I have the VR6 and I use about a quart every 3 or 4 thousand miles. I check my level every month which is about every 1,000 miles.

Since you didn't specify WHICH engines, I will comment that MOST of us TDIers have none or little oil consumption over 10,000 miles. Which is good because the synthetic is expensive.

its something in the stem of the engine i was told. Dealership will give you run around, contact VW if it persists. also contact other dealerships and see if they will do it. VW DOES NOT SAY THAT A QUART PER THOUSAND IS NORMAL!!! I dont know where you got your info but its wrong. 1/2 per thousand is excessive by EPA/gov't standards and by Volkswagen.

talk to any dealer and they will tell you this is normal

I have put 4 qaurts of oil in my brand new 2001 GTI VR6 in the last 4000 miles I took it in twice I am waiting to hear there excuse this time.
