Re: "Oil-eater" 2.0L engines gone for '02? (spongebob_squarepants)

they are reliabled, that's never been an issue. But some ate 1qt oil evern 1k miles.
If no other engine fits the bill then get it. Just make a mental note for everytime the odo rolls over another 1k to fillup the oil, or check it every other weekend or something.

Re: "Oil-eater" 2.0L engines gone for '02? (Just Some Guy1)

I hope it has been fixed, (upside-down!?
) because my wifes favorite car is a (very affordable) Golf GL 4dr 2.0L. Doesn't have the power of my 1.8T, but I like the hatch design and headlights better, it's the right color and if she's happy - I'm happy! I'm also considering the TDI Jetta, but if she wants the less expensive Golf, fine w/me.

Well I can't find any TDI Golfs, but can get a good deal on a TDI Jetta and took it home overnight on a test drive. I like the smooth, quiet demeanor on the road of this engine. 40mpg is nice too!

DO NOT GET A 2.O....I have one and although I love the car, I would have much preferred the TDI. Both are slow, but at least the TDI is much better on gas. I cant get more than 450 KM (KM NOT MILES) on a full tank on my 2.0...maybe its just me, but thats ridicilous (and i drive it like an old lady too)...
TDI is the way to go!

If you need a price idea, I got my '02 (first one into boston port
) for ~19200 + tax and title. I've got the lux and the monsoon package, it was going to be ~19350 with the cwp if it came with it.
I get 45-47mpg on average and I love it!! Plenty of pep once you get used to driving a diesel instead of a gasser. Different personalities but once used to it you'll love it!
