Mobil 0W40 is widely recommended here and is an excellent oil to use in a VR6.Castrol 0W30(made in Germany)is also good.
Both meet the VW 502.00 spec.
To be honest i've tried Hengst,Mahle,Purolator,Fram and STP VR6 oil filters and they all work equally well.

i use the oem filter and valvoline synthetic 10w30.
