Anyone ever have this problem? my motor is blowing the seal on the oil filter. it is actually bending the lip around the seal aswell. the car will run for 5 seconds, and then it blows sending oil everywhere. HELP PLEASE. thanks

Defective oil pump pressure relief spring?
Does the car have an oil pressure gauge? What does it read?

If it's a good filter it's fitted properly and the filter surface isn't damaged then i can't see it being anything other than the relief valve.

Biker hit the nail on the head. I had this happen to me several years ago. A new oil pump took care of the problem. Although, I did wast 2 oil filters in the process! http://****************.com/smile/emthdown.gif

VDUBS. I agree with everything you say, sometimes I get frustrated with people that think they know what they are talking about even though they have never wrenched, ever.

For your kind words. No, I am not an auto tech, just an electronic tech with a long running interest in autos.
About what Gearhead... said. I cannot count the times, reading a post about some difficulty somebody has and some dim-bulb chimes in with something from outer space.
I try to post to threads where I actually know something, either from first hand experience or something I have read and understand.

so a new oil pump is all i need. myoil guage was fine. once the filter would blow, then the light would come on.

You need to fix the relief valve. Have you tested the pressure?

Is the relief valve in the oil pump? and how do i test the pressure? the car will only run for 2 seconds and then the filter blows.

The pressure relief valve is part of the oil pump. Get a new oil pump and put it in. If you don't have a Bentley and a lift, I would get it towed to a shop and have them do it.

You do not need a lift. I changed the rod bearings on my Scirocco (RIP) in the driveway.
Here's all you need;
Bentley
new oil pump
jack
jack stands
torque wrench
oil pan gasket
ratchet, extension, sockets
blue locktite (for the pump bolts)
Jack the front of that puppy up, put the stands under it, make sure it's safe.
Unbolt the pan, remove the pump
assembly is the reverse of disassembly...
If you have it towed to a mechanic, all you will do is double or triple the cost of this repair. If you don't have the Bentley, you needed it anyway!
Now, get wrenchin'

alrgiht thanks, i am gonna be doing it myself, but wasnt sure if the pressure relief valve was in the oil pump or if it was seperate. thanks all, this car is sold as soon as it is fixed. my friend has been waitng impatiently. my new beater car is quite a sleeper that will step to anything
