I have been using Synthetic(Mobil 1 15/50) in my 2.0L since 30K miles. I just hit 80K and have three little oil spots wherever I park. Is this normal for my cars age? What do you think it is? Any help Appreciated.

Re: Oil Leak...Help!! (Volkscavenger)

Is it from the front or back of the engine? If it's from the back it's either the oil plug, oil pan gasket, cylinder head gasket or the valve cover gasket. Hope that it's any of those except the cylinder head gasket. My valve cover gasket is leaking and I'm using it as an excuse to get a cam and to install the "camsaver" plastic shield to that will help keep oil out of the air intake tube. If it's the frint, there's a lot more to check...I haven't dealt with that area yet.

Re: Oil Leak...Help!! (collins_tc)

I just fixed a real slow leak in my VR6 last weekend.
Step One:
Get the car up on jack stands, crawl under there with a good light, and find out exactly where the leak is coming from. It should be easy to find the general area at least, since you will probably see drops of oil and the dust it attracts.
Then, when you locate the source of the leak, post again to get tips on fixing it.
Mine was the oil cooler (on the VR6 this is located at the front of the engine, just above the filter) I posted asking how to fix it, got some good advice, and now, $8 and 30 minutes of labor later, my VR6 is leak free!
Good luck bro'!

Re: Oil Leak...Help!! (rtmeikle)

check the oil pressure sending unit on top of the oil filter housing. Ive seen those things go bad and spew oil out, like a fountain. also check the valve cover gasket and the oil pan gasket.
